Izzie-isms

You know?
(pause for effect)
Shellfish live in the water.
(acknowledge applause)
Sometimes.

AND yesterday the parrots were back....

(from the back seat and without any prompt or context)
Mummy I'm dreaming about parrots...

parrots

You know how Iz is mad on animals? Well the latest is parrots. It first became apparent when I caught her staring into her bowl of cereal. " What's the matter Izzie?" I asked "Nothing, I'm not crying" she said. "But what are you thinking about?" A long pause then "I'm just thinking about parrots".

Why parrots? Don't know.

And then a week later I met up with a friend and she told me about how she was producing a Cole Porter review for the up coming Art Deco Fest. She left me with Cole Porter stuck in my head. I drove Izzie around the block singing "I love Paris in the Springtime, I love Paris in the Fall". I sang the whole number at full volumn. When I was done there was another dramatic pause then Izzie piped up from the back seat.

"I love parrots too mummy" she said.

Big boy Bax

Did i tell you about those first two days with Billie home? We got up late and lay about and didn't do many chores. Well, both mornings Bax went down to the kitchen and made us toast and brought it up to us in bed.

He's so grown up and thougthful sometimes.

Then the other day G and I were doing some very complicated sums and Bill was crying and i was muttering that I really should put her to bed and then without saying anything Bax picked Bill up and disappeared with her. Later I found he had carried her all the way up stairs and put her to bed, pulling the covers up neatly and everything.

Then on Friday we went to a birthday tea (just me and the kids) and I was pooped and Bill woke up. well Bax just went to where she was sleeping down the hall at our friends place and picked her up and brought her to me!

He is a great help!

Poor Billie

Little Billie, who is only 5 weeks old remember, has a cold! she has tiny snot coming out of her tiny nose and she is snuffling out tiny sneezes and her cry is even hoarse! She is still feeding which is a relief so her nose can't be completely blocked. I am just keeping her warm and snug and well fed. She sleeps a lot which is probably the best remedy. Poor little squidge!

Such a beautiful day!

It's Sunday. And the sun is shining, sky is blue, birds are singing. I've done so much washing AND got it dry!

Bax and Iz are running around outside and have been all day. We have given up toilet training Iz - she will just have to do it herself. On days like today though I leave off the nappy in some kinda crazy hope she may just GET IT. But every now and again I see a very pale white bottom streak past me and I find a pair of damp trou so I guess she is still working on it.

Bax must have put on a dozen costumes today - he is very into WHAT I AM GOING TO BE WHEN I GROW UP. This week he announced to G that when he grew up he was going to be a ...car. Then yesterday he said he was going to be JUST LIKE EDMUND HILLARY. Then today over pancakes-for-breakfast he said WHEN I GROW UP I'M GOING TO BE A BUILDER (dramatic pause) OR A PIRATE.

bundle o' love

It's so yummy having a new baby again. Swaddling her tightly, yards of white muslin hanging on the line, the smell of her poo (reaaly so sweet you almost want to ice a cake with it!), her tufts of hair so soft, the way she unfurls her fingers one by one, the chuffling noises she makes, oooo I could eat her.

Three

Well.

Here I am again.

And again I apologise for my lack of contact.

But now I have big news...so here I am.

We welcomed our new baby on Aug 18 weighing 8lb 6oz. Her name is Willoughby Stella. Quite a long name for a tiny tot so it has already been shortened to various things including Billie and Minnow. My Grandfather was known as Billy too as a child and his name was Geoffrey so I think turning Willoughby into Billie isn't actually too far of a stretch! Stella is after my dear dear great aunt Stella who left us in 2001 but who made such a mark on us in her last few years.

Billie arrived at 8.30pm on a Monday after a full day in the delivery suite flat on my back which is not something I had to put up with during the labouring with Bax or Iz. For a rather dull reason I won't go into I was in hospital for two weeks prior and then Billie was induced (I should say here that this was an active, controlled induction and not the type of induction that invloves gell and women (upon telling their stories later to friends) sucking in quick intakes of air and squeezing their eyes closed in the memory of how painful it all was!). So she arrives at 38 weeks.

When I was finally home after all that palaver, and feeling fit and well again, Bax (who is still obsessed with cars) said to me "Well Mum now you're back to being a four-wheel drive!"

Another funny Bax comment came when I was a bit sick of him asking so so so many questions about babies and I said to him "Gosh Bax you ask a lot of questions". he said "Mum I'm just a curious guy!"

Bax is smitten with Billie. Izzie is a little more reserved but she does love lying next to me in the early hours with Billie on the other side saying "it's just the girls aye mum, no boys aye Mum"

It is terrific being home during the day, in so many ways. Who knew getting through all the piles of washing in a single day was even possible?! Bax has a bit of a cough and it's great to just be able to keep him home rather than ring around panicking about who can free up some hours in their day to take him.

I feel like there is so much to say but I know nobody ever reads blog entries over 100 words so I'll leave of here - but I promise to be back with an update soon.

One more thing though - should I rename the blog? From BaxandIzzie to BillieIzzieBax or something? Don't want Minnow to feel leftout...
